Pavel Moravec is a Czech technology entrepreneur who founded Braiins with Jan Čapek. Company history chiefly associates him with leading Slush Pool; he designed Stratum V2 with Čapek and Matt Corallo.
Braiins was a joint project of Pavel Moravec and Jan Čapek, with backgrounds in banking IT and embedded software. Marek Palatinus founded the original Bitcoin.cz Mining Pool in 2010. Moravec's later company and pool role does not make him the author of that initial foundation. [Braiins — Remaining pool stake acquisition]
Company history states that Braiins took a majority stake and all pool operations in 2013. For the Braiins OS development period, it describes Moravec as leading Slush Pool and Čapek as leading firmware. This division of work does not establish personal authorship of every component. [Braiins — Remaining pool stake acquisition]
The official Stratum V2 website names Moravec, Jan Čapek and Matt Corallo as designers. It attributes current maintenance to an independent open-source community. Moravec's role is a contribution to a shared standard, not one company's right to decide every implementation. [Stratum V2 — Designers and independent maintenance]
In a public comment on 20 May 2020, Moravec noted that the first spending of a reward often represents a pool paying the actual miner. A Braiins article reproduces the comment. That movement alone cannot establish that its recipient sold BTC for fiat. [Braiins — Understanding miner payments, 2020]
Coin Metrics' 2020 methodology labels coinbase recipients as 0-hop and includes their recipients in the 1-hop set as well. In typical arrangements it seeks to distinguish pools from miners. It explicitly acknowledges exceptions: solo mining, different wallet structures and wrongly included exchange addresses. [Coin Metrics — Following Flows, 2020]
Coin Metrics notes that coin outflows do not rule out custody transfers for derivatives or loans. An on-chain movement is therefore not a complete trade record. A claim of actual selling needs further evidence; a miner-address label alone is insufficient. [Coin Metrics — Following Flows, 2020]
In an April 2020 Braiins interview, Moravec discussed North American mining using excess natural gas and possible equipment manufacturing outside China. This was his outlook at the time. It is neither a current hashrate distribution statistic nor evidence of a particular electricity price being available today. [Braiins — Halving interview, April 2020]
In that interview, Moravec described risk-hedging tools, such as derivatives, as a further step in mining's development. Other guests' answers are not his statements. A historical opinion about needed tools guarantees neither suitability, availability nor safety for a particular miner. [Braiins — Halving interview, April 2020]
