ChainCamp is a paid educational and community conference in Ostrava. It combines talks, practical workshops and Bitcoin-related conversations; it neither governs Bitcoin nor guarantees exhibitors’ services.
Imagine you have a wallet but still feel unsure about storing its backup safely. A wallet lets you receive and send bitcoin. Its backup preserves the information needed to recover access, for example if you lose your phone. A video helped only halfway: you need to ask a follow-up question. An in-person conference provides that opportunity. ChainCamp brings newcomers together with people who have used Bitcoin for years or build things for it. A talk explains a subject to an audience; a workshop is a smaller practical lesson where you try a task yourself. Martin Kuchař and Matyáš Kuchař started ChainCamp in 2020, during the pandemic. Coinmate’s retrospective reports roughly 450 visitors that year, around 900 in 2021 and about 2,000 at the Gong venue in Dolní Vítkovice in 2022. These are historical attendance figures, not an independent audit. They nevertheless tell a straightforward story: one gathering became an event people kept returning to Ostrava for. In 2024 Martin announced that ChainCamp was ending. The brothers wanted more time for their international conference, BTC Prague. Reading only that headline could suggest the Ostrava event disappeared. What ended was the original organising chapter. A new team with Jaroslav “Péťa” Petr carried the work forward. An announced intention and what subsequently happens are different things; BTC Prague is not a new name for ChainCamp. [9] [10] [11]
The continuation has a precise date: the sixth edition took place on 20 September 2025 at Aula VŠB in Ostrava-Poruba, as recorded in the university’s own calendar. In an Alza interview, Jaroslav Petr said organising left him time for only one workshop; he hoped to catch the other talks on video. Conferences depend on ordinary practical work: timetables, rooms and people needing help. The speaker is visible, but the team offstage often determines whether visitors find their way. [7] [9]
The seventh edition is no longer just a plan. A subsequent report places it on 11–12 September 2026, again in Ostrava-Poruba. Friday’s PLAN B broadened the subjects to protecting assets, digital security and personal independence; Saturday continued with the Bitcoin programme. Bitcoin-only describes a focus, not a promise that every conversation concerns the protocol alone. Earlier editions also covered other cryptocurrencies, trading and social questions; one label cannot describe their entire history. [8] [9] [16]
As of 17 October 2026, the organiser announces the eighth ChainCamp for 11 September 2027. Yet the website still carries a programme labelled 2026. Names such as Jakub “Kicom” Vejmola, Josef Tětek and Adam Chvaja in that programme do not automatically confirm their participation in 2027. Check the year attached to each detail, the venue and the ticket conditions. An old schedule can show an event’s character without being a timetable for its next edition. [1] [16]
One suitable lesson may help a newcomer more than a day spent rushing between rooms. Do you want to understand wallet backups, try a small payment through Lightning Network, a network for quick bitcoin payments, or ask a merchant about accepting bitcoin? Choose accordingly. Czech and Slovak predominate, but Bader Zaidan’s cybersecurity workshop was explicitly marked as English in 2026. Check the language, prerequisites and booking requirements: an admission ticket need not guarantee a place in every small classroom. [1] [18]
Hands-on learning works best when mistakes are affordable. Use a small amount and a separate practice wallet for initial experiments. A Seed Phrase is a set of words that can restore the corresponding wallet; never show anyone the real backup protecting your savings or enter it on someone else’s device. Lightning Network enables quick payments, but custody depends on the wallet. Scanning a QR code tells you nothing by itself about who holds the private keys needed to authorise payments or how recovery works. [17] [18]
ChainCamp sells tickets and works with partners. A friendly atmosphere does not make it free or nonprofit. A booth can be a useful place to examine a device and ask questions, while also presenting a particular company’s offer. Conference sponsorship is neither independent proof of product security nor a guarantee of returns. Read the documentation, fees and conditions at your own pace. The organiser’s frequently asked questions (FAQ) page promises free talk recordings on YouTube; workshops are not recorded. The archive also helps people who never travelled to Ostrava, although an older tutorial must be checked against the tool’s current version. Afterwards, choose one thing you now understand better and repeat it safely. ChainCamp provides learning and contacts, not an authority that decides the truth for you.
